What will the apprentice be doing on site

EN:Able Futures, are an award winning apprenticeship employer, have a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice Bricklayer to work on their residential new build projects, to enable to successful candidate to gain the relevant skills and experience to enhance them to complete their apprenticeship.

Relevant information about the project

As an apprentice, you will learn how to undertake the following day to day tasks:

• Comply with health and safety regulations, standards and guidance
• Identify and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Read and interpret information from drawings and specifications
• Estimate and select required resources, for example the quantity of bricks and blocks, mortar, wall ties and insulation
• Prepare and maintain a safe working area
• Select and use hand tools
• Maintain and store hand tools
• Set out brick and block cavity wall to given tolerances, including an opening
• Construct a stretcher bond brick and block cavity wall with return and opening to given tolerances, including installing a lintel with soldiers, brick and edge sill, closure around opening, insulation, fire stopping, cavity tray, damp proof course (DPC) and weep holes
• Set out and construct a simple brick solid wall with capping
• Gauge and hand mix mortar to ratio
• Measure and cut bricks and blocks using hand tools, to given tolerances
• Carry out a simple repair, for example replacing damaged bricks
• Protect materials and finished work
• S18: Verbally communicate with others, applying construction terminology
• Construct a brick wall with raking cut, for example gable end wall or garden wall with raking cut

•Must have a keen interest in the construction industry
• Willing to work towards a Level 2 Qualification
• Ability to undertake any necessary travel in connection with the duties of this post
•Expectation to achieve full driving license, if not already possessing one
• Ability to work on own initiative as an individual or as a team member
• Willingness to immediately attain an ECS Card (This will be funded)

Qualifications Required

GCSE Grade 4-9 in Maths and English

The successful candidate will work towards a Level 2 Bricklaying Qualification, which will take 24 months plus EPA (End Point Assessment)


Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:30

£273.00 Per Week (This is made up of the National Apprenticeship Wage plus £17 travel allowance)
