EN:Able Futures, an award-winning apprenticeship employer are partnering with Graham – Civil Engineering in their delivery of their new project to upgrade the A164 in East Yorkshire. We are offering a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice Civil Engineering Technician to work with Graham and become part of their growing team.

As an Apprentice Civil Engineer you will:

• Undertake dimensional control of civil engineering projects
• Assist delivery teams with civil engineering solutions
• Undertake supervision of labour and sub-contractors
• Contribute to the control of health and safety
• Record, control and report of progress of the project
• Contribute to the minimisation of the environmental impact
• Control the quality of works
• Help to promote a safety culture and quality all ways on the project
• Support the coordination of construction site-based projects alongside supervisory and technical teams on an individual site, a range of sites or in an office environment
• Identify the suitability of health and safety documentation, including risk assessments and method statements, to assist in ensuring sufficient planning has been carried out for tasks to be completed safely
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the requirements of a project are met, ensuring records of the communications are kept in line with company processes

As an apprentice working attending college on day release, you will learn how to undertake the following key skills: (but not limited to)

• Appropriate engineering principles, underpinned by appropriate mathematical, scientific, and technical knowledge and understanding, relating to civil engineering and the construction process
• Appropriate civil engineering techniques and methods used to design, build, and maintain infrastructure and buildings, the standards, contracts, and specifications used, and their impact on the construction process
• Key principles, techniques and methods of data and technical information collection, analysis and evaluation used in delivering civil engineering models, designs, and technical solutions
• Technical drawings, modelling, and designs, using computer-based software packages, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD) or Building Information Modelling (BIM), and their use in the sector
• Statutory health, safety and welfare policies, procedures, and regulations, including risk management, in relation to civil engineering project delivery
• Industry policies, standards, regulations, and codes of practice, such as Common Safety Method (CSM), Construction Design and Management (CDM) or Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB), that must be adhered to in the civil engineering environment

The apprentice will need

• Comply with health, safety and welfare requirements, industry standards, statutory regulations, policies, and codes of practice
• Work independently, operating in a systematic, proactive, and transparent way, using resources effectively to complete tasks, knowing their limitations and when to ask for support or escalate
• Apply a structured approach to problem solving with attention to detail, accuracy, and diligence
• Is motivated when collaborating in teams, offering sensible challenge, reflects on and provides constructive feedback and contributes to discussions
• Maintains professional and ethical working relationships with internal, external, and connected stakeholders
• Takes responsibility for their own professional development, seeking opportunities to enhance their knowledge, skills, and experience
• Demonstrate a knowledge and interest in becoming a Civil Engineer
• Have a good level of Maths and English
• Have the ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel
• Have a good attention to detail
• Confident with technology and keen to learn more
• You’ll need to be self-motivated and organised
• Effective communication skills both verbal and written
• Effective Customer Care skills
• Ability to work on own initiative as an individual or as a team member
• Contribute to the development of good working relationships within the team

• Willingness to immediately attain a CSCS card (this will be funded)

Qualifications Required

5 x GCSE’s grades A-C / 5-9 including Maths, English and Science

Relevant information about the site

The successful applicant will work towards a Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician Qualification which will take 24 months and will be through East Riding College on a Day Release basis.


37.5 Hours Per Week. Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:00

£257 per week (This is made up of the National Apprenticeship wage plus £17 travel allowance)
