What will the apprentice be doing on site

EN:Able Futures, an award-winning apprenticeship employer have partnered with the River Stewardship Company (RSC) and are offering a fantastic opportunity for Water Environment Workers and become part of their growing team.

RSC operate a commercial contracting service offering high quality waterway maintenance and improvement projects throughout Yorkshire and beyond.

The Water Environment Worker Apprenticeship provides a fantastic opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge, and experience for employment within the water environment and wider conservation and land management sectors.
Whilst working towards their Level 3 Water Environment Worker Apprenticeship, the apprentice will work within the site-based team to help deliver a range of water catchment management projects in Yorkshire, and occasionally beyond.

Relevant information about the project

As an Apprentice Water Environment Worker, you will:-
• Work within a site-based team to deliver water catchment management projects in accordance with our client’s requirements.
• Carry out work safely and efficiently to Company, industry and legislative standards and ways of working.
• Communicate issues that affect the safe and efficient operation of the team to the site supervisor and/or Leadership Team.
• Assist in the maintenance the tool store, vehicle, tools and equipment and maintain all associated records and logbooks.
• Tree management. All aspects of tree management. Whilst there is a focus on waterways and waterbodies, this may also include the management of trees in green spaces and properties.
• River and habitat restoration. Restoring and enhancing natural processes to improve flood risk management and biodiversity. Examples include re-meandering and working to create or restore flood storage areas.
• Upland and natural flood management. Whilst there is some crossover with 'river and habitat restoration', the focus here is typically around upland management and restoration. For example, sphagnum moss planting.
• Grounds maintenance. Ongoing grounds maintenance activities as a principal or second-tier contractor. Will typically include mowing, hedge/shrub cutting and litter picking.
Delivery tasks on site may include (but are not exclusive to) invasive species control, vegetation management, tree management, debris and waste management, moorland restoration work and the occasional delivery of volunteer days.

• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with businesses, individuals and communities of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, including young and vulnerable people.
• Ability to work under your own initiative for self-guided learning as part of the apprenticeship.
• Ability to be able to swim.
• Practical and logical aptitude and an ability to come up with solutions to practical problems.

Qualifications Required

3 x GCSEs Grades 4-9 (C-A*) Including Maths and English or the ability to undertake these as part of the apprenticeship

Qualification working towards

Level 3 Water Environment / Duration 18 months + EPA (workplace assessment)

Wage/Working Week

£194.97 per week (This is made up of the national apprenticeship wage + a weekly £17 travel allowance) / 40 hours per week - start and finish times to be confirmed
