What will the apprentice be doing on site

EN:Able Futures, an award-winning apprenticeship employer, have partnered with Target Housing, a charity and social landlord, who are offering a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice Plumbing and Heating Technician to join their team as an apprentice, and to gain valuable knowledge and skills whilst working in their housing properties.

Relevant information about the project

• Assisting fully trained plumber/gas engineers on day to day activities installing domestic heating systems, boilers, bathrooms, kitchens and repairs and maintenance
• Undertake accurate measuring, marking, cutting, bending and jointing metallic and non-metallic pipework
• Understand Health & Safety Legislation, codes of practice and safe working practices
• Understand selection, planning, installation, testing, commissioning and de-commissioning, service, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair techniques on cold water, hot water, central heating, above ground drainage and rainwater systems
• Understand installation and testing techniques for electrical components and control systems on plumbing and domestic heating systems
• Understand the principles of fuel combustion, ventilation, and flushing arrangements within a domestic environment
• Understand the principles of high-quality customer service and establishing the needs of others (colleagues, customers and other stakeholders)
•Respect the working environment including customers properties
• Understand different communication methods, how to communicate in a clear, articulate and appropriate manner, and how to adapt communication style to suit different situations

Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technicians will be at the forefront of installing new and exciting environmental technologies like heat pumps, solar thermal systems, biomass boilers and water recycling systems. It is important for a plumbing and heating technician to be able to work independently or as a team and use their knowledge and skills to ensure that both the system and appliances are appropriately selected and correctly installed, often without any supervision, and done in a safe, efficient, and economical manner to minimise waste.

Qualifications Required

4x GCSE's 4-9 including Maths, English and Science


Relevant information about the site

The successful applicant will work towards a Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Technician Qualification.
The qualification will take 48 months, plus an End Point Assessment.

By the end of this apprenticeship, the candidate will have satisfied the requirements for registration as EngTech by the engineering council through the Chartered Institure of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE) and/or The Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)



39 Hours Per Week.
Monday to Friday 08:00 - 16:30 (with a 15:30 finish on a Friday)


£222.92 per week (This is made up of the National Apprenticeship Wage plus an additional £17 travel allowance)
